Titanium White Series 2023

‘The ‘Titanium White’ Series 2023 continues to celebrate the effects of the ‘Hard-Edge’ style in the Australian Aboriginal Flag image. That style cannot be contained. I applied the free hand brush stroke movement across the canvas, as an abstract impressionist. The technique of applied impasto or thickness of oil paint energises the colour fields. Combining the two styles allows my personal signature to thrive.

As a designer in art, there are some basic principles that hold the image together or not. The trial and error is paramount. The impulsive emotions do instinctively give rise to a lucid outcome. Its easy to begin, its when to cease that last brush stroke. Overpainting loses the intent. Selection or choice of colour based on a theme is challenging.

Why I choose ‘Titanium White’ oil paint. Its because of its powerful presence and of its purity and its clear, starkness, optical effect, offset, contrast, no illusions, unsub missive raises the crescendo, its beautiful on its own it lifts itself out, translucent appearance, an illusionary colour, euphoric.

White oil paint is a stand alone in its purity, morphing with any other pigment it weakens, even though it is the most applied of all colours, its mutation has given rise to the most beautiful of artworks. Without white pigment, art would fall on its knees.’
